Venice - Trieste: Beach & Bike Family Tour

IT - Veneto
  • Holiday type Bicycle holiday

Tour information

The starting point of this bike tour along the Adriatic Sea is Sam Donà di Piave. On the way, you will stop in the classic beach resorts Lido di Jesolo, Caorle, Bibione, Lignano and Grado. Do not forget your bathing suit on this bike tour, there is always the opportunity for a refreshing swim. But there is also a lot to discover from a cultural point of view.

The tour ends in Trieste, the Habsburg town by the sea, which has lost little of its charm from the past. This bike tour to Trieste runs mostly flat on bike paths and little-used side roads.
The distance of the individual stages is not very long, therefor this tour is particularly suitable for families with children.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Individual arrival at the hotel on San Donà di Piave. The “Serenissima” with all its splendid buildings invites to a primary inspection and is only some chilometres far away. The city of Venice has a well organised and easily accessible public transport system.

Day 2:

(approx. 25 km)

The first chilometres on your bicycle tour leaves you to the typical beach resort of Lido di Jesolo, which seams unchanged for the last 30 years and that‘s probably why it is so popular. The adventure parke New Jesolandia with his numerous attractions, from the classic one to the new-modern, will invite you for a visit in the late afternoon.

Day 3:

(approx. 20 km)

Today you will first reach Eraclea Mare and pass it‘s lagoon surrounded by dunes and pine trees on all sides, which is a refuge for birds. You cycle along the coast into the holiday center Duna Verde, conspicuously laid out in a circular pattern. However, the preserved nature, the dunes and the greenery give the town its striking name. Today‘s destination is Caorle, where beach and sea are mixed with history and traditions. The fishing port in the historic center, antique houses, alleys and squares characterize the picture.

Day 4:

(approx. 40 - 50 km)

You have to say goodbye to the sea now - but not for long. Through the hinterland you cycle around the lagoon of Caorle, which Ernest Hemingway already loved and which enchants with its very special flora, the many migratory and standing birds and the old fishermen‘s huts made of wood and reeds, which are still preserved. Back at the sea, you will spend the night in Bibione or Lignano, the two seaside resorts to the left and right of the Tagliamento River, which rises in the Alps and flows into the Adriatic here.

Day 5:

(approx. 45 - 55 km + boat trip)

The river Stella leads you today from its mouth in the Stella nature reservoir into the hinterland to the small towns of Precenicco and Palazzolo dello Stella. On the other side of the river you cycle to the so-called „Bilancia da Bepi“, where fishing is still carried out with a large net, as it has been for 40 years. You continue by boat until shortly before Aquileia, a formerly thriving city of the Roman Empire. From there it is not far to the stage destination Grado. Grado is considered a sun and gold island, has a beautiful old town and is equally popular with beach and culture lovers.

Day 6:

A ship takes you across the Gulf of Trieste to the former Habsburg town by the sea. Trieste has a rich and complex history and only became part of Italy at the end of the First World War. A backdrop of ships and cranes, palaces from the imperial era and magnificent villas characterize today‘s cityscape. Many buildings are kept in the neoclassical and art nouveau style. The center of the extremely charming city, also called „Gate of Europe“ or „Coffee capital“, is the spectacular Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia.

Day 7:

Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay in Trieste.
